View Tribute Book Partha Odean Payne, age 84 of Chatham, VA. died Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation in Chatham, VA. Born November 22, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Bradner and the late Nellie Bradner. She was married to the late Ronnie Payne for fifty-four years. She is survived by one son, Ryan Payne, three cousins, Janet Pinkerton, Callie Mae Pillow Russell, and Danny Moore, one granddaughter, Precious Hannah Malia Payne of the Philippines, and Annie Sampson of the Philippines. Mrs. Payne was a historian for the Raleigh Martin Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy from 1994 and gave many speeches to the group about civil war battles and recollections of different events that occurred during the war of the states. Furthermore, she was a history buff of all history and studied genealogy for a number of years under the guidance of Jannie Crosby. Partha belonged to numerous animal organizations, Humane Society, PETTA, and the Roanoke Horse Rescue. I remember my mother would wake up early in the morning to feed many homeless animals that were neglected, and my mother gave many of those animals a kind and loving home where they were loved all the time. My mother’s kindness never ceased to amaze me, where she had rescued several turtles and helped them get across the road. My mother loved horses, she had a horse named “Dan” that her parents owned when they lived on the farm, and later she occurred another horse named “Jada”, that was my mother’s love. My mother was an avid traveler, where we took many family vacations throughout the years, in which we visited Europe twice, Canada, and many states within the United States. I remember how much my mother loved Hawaii, so much so that she visited twice over the years. My mother loved British history and had visited Winsor Castle and loved the courtyard where she visited Stonehenge. I will always be in gratitude for the love and compassion you showed me over the years, and you have been a mentor to me, and for all the support you gave to me over the years. I will never forget when you took me to the reading center, where you never gave up on me, and the compassion you showed me. My mother, Partha Payne’s memory will always live in my heart, and the Lord Jesus Christ has a special soul that dwells in heaven. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Carl O. Moran Cemetery, Gretna, VA., with Pastor Curtis English officiating. Read more
