Norman’s Obituary Reed City – Norman Horatio Van Arsdale Jr., 75, of Reed City, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022. He was born March 20, 1947, in Washington DC, the son of Norman Sr. and Helen (Ashlin) Van Arsdale, and graduated from Howell High School. From 1967-71, Norm served our country in the United States Naval Construction Battalions (Seabees). While in the navy he met Mary Cooper, and they were married on November 22, 1971, after his honorable discharge from the US Navy. Norm worked for MDOT for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Michigan Crossroads Lions Club in Reed City, and Boy Scout Troops 74 & 174 also of Reed City. Norm enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most important loved spending time with family. He is survived by his children, Frances Runyon of Reed City, Norman (Noelle) Van Arsdale of Illinois, Eric (Meredith) Van Arsdale of Washington, and Laurel (Chris) Lamakul of Texas; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Norm was preceded in death by his wife, of 39 years, Mary in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two grandchildren, Ryan and Nikole. A Celebration of Norman’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Reed City VFW 2964 Post, 129 E. Osceola Ave., Reed City, MI.
