Obituary Please share a memory of Nelson to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Nelson Collins, 75, of Metamora, died Friday, November 18, 2022. He was born in Detroit (June 11, 1947) to Herman Collins and Norma (Stephens) Collins. He spent his early years in Ferndale, and grew up in Metamora, graduating from high school in Lapeer in 1965. Nelson lived in Attica for many years and was active on the volunteer fire department. He worked for General Motors, retiring in the 1980s to move to Arizona, then to Las Vegas, NV, where he used his skills in steel fabrication and crane repair. Nelson loved farming, but was drawn to the Southwest, where he enjoyed camping and exploring the desert on ATVs. Returning to Michigan, Nelson shared his wit and wisdom with his children and his grandchildren. He always had innovative ideas about accomplishing tasks, and was ready to pitch in to help or give good advice. He always had a joke at the ready. Taking unnecessary seriousness out of situations was his true calling. Nelson is survived by his sisters, Susan Ruwart, and DeLynn (Richard) Nass; his children Terry (Marie) Collins, and Lisa (Jim) Craig; and his grandchildren Michael (Angela), Collin, Catherine, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Swain, and Catherine Smith, as well as his parents. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. No formal services are scheduled at this time. Condolences and memories, not to say humor, may be left at MuirBrothersLapeer.com
