November 7 1947 October 5 2022
Obituary Joseph Charles Skoskie peacefully left this world on October 5, 2022, at his home in Melbourne, Florida. Joe was born on November 7, 1947, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late John and Nancy Skoskie (Derk). He was a 1965 graduate of Coal Township High School. Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1966 when his Country said “I need you.” He was very proud of serving his Country and teared up whenever the National Anthem was played. During his first ten years of service, he served tours as a communications technician with the Air Force Electronic Security Command in Alaska, Texas, Italy and Japan. He served his second ten years as a computer systems analyst at Headquarters Strategic Air Command (SAC), Offutt AFB, Omaha, Neb. and the Defense Communications Agency at the Alternate National Military Command Center, Site “R,” in southern Pennsylvania. During his career, he received degrees from the community college of the Air Force and Georgia Military College. He is also a graduate of the Strategic Air Command’s Non-Commissioned Officer’s Academy. Joe’s second 20-year career was as an IT Specialist with the Internal Revenue Service, Martinsburg, West Virginia. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Melbourne, a Third-Degree Knights of Columbus and member of American Legion Post 15 in Waynesboro, PA. Joe was the man everyone went to for help or advice when something needed fixed or built. He was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors. Some of his many interests were hunting, traveling, reading, country line dancing, woodworking and sitting on the beach with a good book. The highlight of his year was football season cheering on his Penn State and Steelers teams. Bea will, among many other things, miss his on-site tech support, being her Mr. Fixit, his creative cooking, happy hour martinis, and his unwavering love. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Beatrice (Bea); daughter Kimberly Rowe and husband, Jake; daughter Amanda Carbaugh and fiancé, Mark Witmer; Grandchildren Bailey Carbaugh; Megan Carroll (Ben); Alyssa Seville (Hunter); Riley Carbaugh; Great Grandchildren Hailey and Cassie Carroll; Sister Barbara Davidyock; Sister Marie Klemick (Bob); Sister-in-Law Diane Wills (Richard); Brother-in-Law Ken Miller (Gale); Brother-in-Law Danny Miller (Carolyn); Mother-in-law, Doris Benedict and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife Nancy Skoskie (Benedict); parents John and Nancy; brother Stanley; Mother-in-Law, Myra Miller; Father-in-Law, Charles Miller; Brother-in-Law Gary Miller, and Father-in-Law Albert Benedict. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 24, 2022, in Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 12 North Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Reverend Christopher Onyeneke, MSSCC officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro, PA, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., Sunday afternoon in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro. The Rosary will be recited at 1 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Joe’s request would be that you donate to a charity of your choice.
