Rev. James (Jim) Edward Owens went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2022. Jim was born in Newellton , Louisiana on June 14, 1930 to Willie Lou (Cook) Owens of Millport, Alabama and Huston Owens of Senatobia, Mississippi. Jim graduated from Millport High School in Millport, Alabama in 1949 as the class president. During his middle and high school years he won many awards in the 4-H program. Jim married Betty Jo Hollingsworth 68 years ago on October 25, 1953, in Lowndes County, Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Betty Jo (Hollingsworth) Owens, 1 brother, 5 sisters, 1 son and 1 granddaughter. Jim is survived by his children Timothy (Tim) Owens and Jill (Harvey) Owens of Bangkok, Thailand, Brenda (Owens) Wilson and Paul Wilson, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Robert Owens and Nancy (Spears)Owens of Foley, Alabama. Jim leaves 11grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Jim retired from the U.S. Navy after serving his country for 20 years with an exceptional record. He was called to the ministry and graduated from Boyce Bible College at Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Jim was ordained into the ministry in 1978 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and First Baptist Church in Reform, Alabama. Jim pastored churches in Headland, Alabama, Geneva, Alabama, Bay Minette, Alabama, Lagoon Baptist Church in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Green Acres Baptist Church in Bay Minette, Alabama, and Perdido Beach, Alabama. Jim was the director at Baldwin Baptist Camp. He was the minister for the jail ministry of First Baptist Church Foley, Alabama. Jim loved the Lord and enjoyed serving Him through his Ministry. He believed that a minister’s role was to be a Shepherd to their congregation and he applied this to his personal life. Jim loved his fellow man and would talk to and tell others of the Lord. He loved his wife and family unconditionally.
