Wanstreet, 83, of Energy, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at SIH Herrin Hospital. Maureen was the head cook at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Herrin for 30 years. Maureen was born April 8, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to Maurice Francis “Red” and Irene Ora (Nash) Masters. Maureen was united in marriage with George J. Wanstreet on February 14, 1965 in Collinsville, IL. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1987. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Linda Venegoni of Mulkeytown, Greg and Candy Wanstreet of Carterville; two grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Summers of Christopher, Michelle (Bobby) Vigil of Herrin; five great grandchildren, Madyson Miller, Wesley Parvin, Abbie Parvin, Lilly Vigil, Haven Randolph and a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Carl Vinson of Energy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Diana Masters. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Eric Lam officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6 at the funeral home. In honoring Maureen, the family requests that attendees of her service, to include some purple in their attire. Burial will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested and may be made to Michelle and Bobby Vigil for the benefit of their daughter, Lilly who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy or to Finding Forever Animal Rescue, 1117 East Main Street, Marion, IL 62959.
