Matthew Ledet, Jr. February 12, 1938 – October 22, 2022 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Lafayette, LA—– A Celebration of Life for Matthews Ledet, Jr., 84, will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Carney Funeral Home Chapel, 602 North Pierce Street. Lafayette, LA. Pastor Trent Davis will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest in Holy First Mission Cemetery in St. Martinville, LA Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Matthews Ledet Jr, affectionately called “Chic and Junius” was born on Saturday February 12, 1938, to the late Matthews Ledet Sr. and Labana Lewis Ledet in Parks La. As a young man, he met the late Josephine Bernadette Lazaro, whom he later married in 1968 and they were blessed with five children. With his family at his side, Matthews had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker. His work history spanned over 40 years, to include working for the State of Louisiana as a mechanic at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he retired after 30 years of service. He was also known to work 2-3 jobs mainly at Holy Family Catholic School as a janitor to ensure all five of his kids received the best education. He loved his family and was everyone’s biggest supporter. He never flinched in the face of adversity. He embraced and conquered it. He will be missed by everyone who adored him. Matthews is preceded in death by his parents, Matthews Ledet, Sr. and Labana Lewis Ledet; his wife Josephine Lazaro Ledet; a grandson, Dominique VonKeith Ledet; sisters Serita Ledet, Mary Ledet, Barbara Ledet and Theresa Batiste; his grandparents; one great-grandchild, baby Erin Ledet and a daughter- in- law, Erin Turner Ledet. God’s will have been accomplished for Matthews’ earthly life, on Saturday October 22,2022 in Lafayette, LA. At the age of 84 years old, He took back to Himself the breath of life that He gave. Mourning his departure but cherishing his precious memories are his children; which includes two sons, Dexter (Valerie) Ledet of Lafayette LA and Matthews (Mathilda) Ledet ,III of Crowley LA; three daughters, Shenika Ledet of Lafayette, LA, Latoya (Darrell) Howard (Darrell) of Lafayette LA and Labana Ledet of Crowley LA; two sisters, Edna Ledet and Betty Thibodeaux , both of St. Martinville LA.; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; a close firiend, Kevin Johnson of St. Martinville, LA; and a host of god- children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him dearly; a close friend, Kevin Johnson from St. Martinville, LA.
