Mary Facenda Stavola December 22, 1928 – March 6, 2022 Share this obituary View/Sign Guestbook PORTSMOUTH—Mary Facenda Stavola passed away on 6 March 2022. She was born in Portsmouth to the late William G. “Joe,” Sr., and Mattie (Bishop) Facenda, Mary was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School and of Maryview Hospital School of Nursing. She was formerly employed as an RN at Maryview’s Psychiatric Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Portsmouth. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Matthew John Stavola, Jr. of Portsmouth, and her brother William Facenda, Jr. of Palo Alto, California. She is survived by a son, Matthew John Stavola III, of Portsmouth and a daughter, Crystal Ann (Stavola) DeGroff, also of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Adam and his wife Katie of Fort Monroe, Patrick and his wife Sue, of Chesapeake, Mallory Stavola of Massachusetts, Megan and her husband of Hawaii, Jack DeGroff of Alabama, and Shelby Parson and her husband Trevor of Washington state; five great-grandchildren, Grayer, Aniston, and Cole Stavola of Chesapeake, Evie Stavola of Fort Monroe, and Rae Parson and soon-to-be sister Joey (due next month) of Washington State; beloved daughter-in-law, Nanette Stavola; son-in law Mikey DeGroff; two nieces, Pamela Rocklin and Deborah O’Neal; along with nephew William G. Facenda III; and her sister-in-law Peggy Selover. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, at St Paul Catholic Church, 522 High St., Portsmouth.
