Obituary Mary E. McCartney, 63, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at 1:51 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. Born Nov. 24, 1959, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Pete and Betty (Eby) Ferencz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin M. Ferencz. Mary is survived by: husband, Timothy McCartney; daughters, Lauren and Leah McCartney, both of Mechanicsburg; sister, Teresa Spigelmyer and husband, Daniel, of Lewistown; mother-in-law, Elizabeth McCartney, of Lewistown; brother-in-law, Daniel McCartney and wife, Kathy, of Lewistown; sister-in-law, Kathy Shively and husband, Jim, of Shippensburg; five nieces and nephews, Haley Dill and husband, Cody, Hannah Spigelmyer and companion, Nick Wilt, Ryan McCartney and wife, Kylene, Kristina Zannino and companion, Jason Younker, and Jennifer Wilkes; and great-nieces and great-nephew, Alana and Ian Dill, and Emma Wilt, affectionately referred to as “her little curtain climbers.” She was a graduate of Lewistown Area High School, Class of 1977. Mary enjoyed camping and loved her cats. She was a mom to many and an excellent cook. Mary will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown, followed by a Celebration of Life service with those in attendance invited to share their fondest memories of Mary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
