Obituary Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Marjorie Ann (Viuhkola) Stanard was born February 15, 1942, to Louise and Will Viuhkola in Astoria, Oregon. Marjie had an older brother, John, and a younger brother, David. Marjie graduated from Astoria High School in 1960 and attended Linfield College on a scholarship; living with her aunt, Marjorie Redmond in McMinnville. After the death of her mother, Marjie and her aunt grew very close and Marje took good care of her aunt in her old age. Marjie worked very hard to obtain a college diploma. She attended Linfield, two community colleges, and Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon) before meeting and marrying David Stanard and joining him in Bandon where he served in the Coast Guard. After David was finished with his service, the couple moved to Portland, where Marjie finished her degree in Elementary Education at Portland State and taught in the Parkrose school system before daughters Marcia and Carrie were born in ‘67 & ‘69. The family moved several times throughout Western Oregon following Dave’s banking career, settling in Waldport where the girls finished high school. Marjie worked in banking when the girls were older and also worked in bookkeeping at Point Adams until the couple bought the Siletz Moorage near Lincoln City. They lived there until retiring to Tillamook in 2006. Marjie was involved in starting a recycling center in Yamhill County in the 1970’s with the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She’s enjoyed the Tillamook chapter of AAUW and belonged to their book group. She loved walking on the beach, collecting agates and looking at the ocean. She loved reading for many years, until losing her sight over the last few years. Her daughter Carrie read to her nearly every day for the last years of her life. Marjie is predeceased by her parents, and brothers. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Dave, and her daughters Marcia (Deese) and Carrie (Gene), four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
