Maria Delmonico, age 91, of Salisbury, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, November 20th, 2022. She was born on January 15th, 1931, in Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Jose and Maria Cruz. One of 8 children, Maria began her life in Santurce, Puerto Rico with her loving parents and siblings. At an early age, her family moved to the United States where she attended elementary and middle school in the Bronx. At the age of 15, Maria fell in love and married Fredrico Parra where they had two children, Alfred and Isabel, and became a stepmother to Fred (Papo). In 1974, the marriage would dissolve, and Maria would continue her journey independently, continuing her career as a hairstylist while being a loving mother to her children. God’s plan for Maria eventually led her to meet the love of her life Robert Delmonico Sr. The two wed on Wednesday, November 3rd 1978 and began their journey as husband and wife, where she became stepmother to Robert’s son, Robert Jr. They lived in New York where Maria worked at a local hair salon and continued to be a loving wife and mother. After Robert retired from the Post Office, the adoring couple decided that New York was no longer where they wanted to spend their lives. Robert and Maria would decide to move to Inverness, Florida until Robert Sr. passed away in 1997. During this time, Maria would continue to work as a cosmetologist at a salon. She enjoyed being around people and would be active in Florida, meeting people and enjoying all that Florida had to offer. After several years of living in Florida, and some health concerns, her children would eventually encourage her to come to Salisbury, Maryland to live in 2005. Salisbury would be where she last rested her head. In addition to enjoying her work as a cosmetologist, it was the simple pleasures of life that brought Maria great joy. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends (family favorites were shrimp fried rice and rice and beans). She also enjoyed gardening, partaking in delicious crab feasts, watching novellas, collecting Barbies, composing oil paintings of flowers and various landscapes, and attending Catholic Mass. In her spare time, she loved playing games and was fiercely competitive at Rummikub, Rummy 500, and Bingo. Maria genuinely enjoyed spending her time with family and friends whom she loved unconditionally. Her granddaughters described their Nana in three words: Warm, Gentle, and Loving. Maria is survived by her son, Alfred, and her daughter, Isabel; her two step-sons, Fred and Robert Jr.; her little sister, Aida; her six grandchildren, Cassandra, Delia, Fred Andrew, Lauren, Rosabel, and Sheila; and many great-grandchildren who will sadly miss her and will forever feel her presence in their hearts. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3rd in Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM in the funeral home.
