Obituary Margaret Gallwey Farrell passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022 at the age of 83. Margie was born in Evanston, Illinois to Christine Johnston Farrell and Dr. James Irving Farrell on September 20,1939. At Cornell University, she earned a BA in Government in 1961 and was chapter president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, before attending Yale and the University of Chicago Law Schools. A member of the Washington, DC Bar Association for 53 years, Margie had a creative, flexible career designed around the needs of her four children, her boundless intellectual curiosity and her passion for human rights. Highlights include working with Covington & Burling and the Mental Health Law Project, being a Supreme Court Fellow, a special master in a federal case for 15 years and a professor at Yale, UVA, Widener, Cardozo at Yeshiva, American University Law Schools. She lived in the Town of Somerset for more than 45 years and was a fixture of the community, having founded the town’s famous 4th of July parade and picnic in the 1970s with her neighbors. As a world traveler and Fullbright scholar, she had the opportunity to live, work and travel in more than fifty countries around the world, including Liberia, Cuba, Bhutan, Guatemala, Brazil and China. Her several dogs were beloved companions over the course of 40 years. She is survived by her sister (Dr Cornelia Farrell Williams of New Orleans), her four children, Beth, Meg, Scott and Dan, and her grandchildren, William, Max and Charlie Smith and Iris and Evan Ewing.
