Obituary Lynne S. Schanzle, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Lynne was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 1, 1937 to Dale Stewart and Jean Cordes Stewart. Lynne grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a masters degree in history and education. She moved to Colorado Springs (United States Air Force Academy) with her then husband, Allan Schanzle. In 1970, the family, which now included their two children, Lorie and Chris, moved to Maryland. Lynne had an impressive and highly regarded 32-year career as a teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools at Watkins Mill ES, Diamond ES, Ridgeview MS, Lakelands MS, and Cabin John MS. Her passion was building foundational skills in math and helping instill the love of learning to all of “her” kids. When Lynne was not busy with own children or teaching, her other passion was her Afghan Hound dogs. Lynne got her first Afghan, David, in 1962. This was the beginning of a nearly 60-year passion and commitment. She was a renowned breeder, judge, and handler, with many dogs becoming champions. Her Mahali Kennels have left a strong legacy in the Afghan Hound community. She was recognized as the top breeder in the US multiple times, along with other top accolades. She traveled the world with her dogs and made lifelong friends and memories. Lynne is survived by her two children, Lorie Quinn and husband Joe, Chris Schanzle and wife Debbie; her two grandchildren Patrick Quinn and Kelsey Quinn; and three great granddaughters. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Holly Faillace; three nieces Kim Gush, Shelley Griffith, and Toni Faillace; and housemate Jay Hyman. Her parents, Dale and Jean Stewart, and nephew, Brad Griffith, preceded her in death. While Lynne left behind her family and friends, she will always be loved in their hearts and minds. The family will receive friends at Barber Funeral Home at 10:30-11:30 am on Friday September, 23. A private interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family expresses their gratitude to the caregivers at Right At Home and Carroll Hospice Services for their special care and kindness.
