April 20 1943 November 24 2022
Obituary Lynn “Lenny” Carroll Slade, 79, of Rockville, Maryland passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He was born in York, Pennsylvania on April 20, 1943, the older of two son born to James Carroll Slade and Helen Margaretta Slade (Fishel). Beloved husband of the late Vivian Louise Slade. He is survived by his brother Byron Slade, daughter Dena Christine Borchardt and David (spouse), son Matthew Lynn Slade and Melinda (spouse); and grandchildren Madeline Louise, Rebecca Helen, Zane Albert and Ava Marie. Lynn (“Lenny”) was born in York, Pennsylvania and moved to rural Baltimore County, where he grew up and went to school, eventually graduating from Hereford High School in 1961. He served in the Army Reserves for six years while simultaneously attending Baltimore College. Lenny was married to Vivian on November 2, 1968. Together, they moved to Rockville, Maryland, where his home is still today, and had two children: Dena and Matt. He was an entrepreneur and small business owner for over 40 years, selling floor furnishings in Lanham, Maryland. Lenny was no stranger to challenges, as he defeated prostate cancer two times and colon cancer once, and was given a new valve in his heart to help with atrial fibrillation. Despite these temporary setbacks, he was very active and loved to bowl for the XX at XX and play softball for almost a decade in the 70 and over league in Olney, Maryland. Lenny loved helping people and giving back to the community. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and at MedStar Montgomery Hospital for many years. Lenny was a devoted grandfather and loved his grandchildren more than anything. He would attend every event of theirs that he could, including lacrosse, soccer, color guard, cheerleading, dance recitals, school plays, Girl Scout events, and graduations (both high school and college). Lenny eagerly saw them as often as he could; They made him as happy as he made them. He was a purveyor of jokes and loved to make people laugh. That is why he was always surrounded by so many friends. He was the kind of man that could be counted on at a moment’s notice and would drop anything to help a friend, give a hug, or hold a hand. He will be deeply, deeply missed, and never forgotten. Read more
