Lupe’s Obituary Lupe Corona, 97, died Tuesday (November 1, 2022) at the Harry Hynes Hospice Unit of Ascension Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Ks. He was born Guadalupe Corona, the son of Gertrudis K. and Casimira Gutierrez Corona on September 26, 1925 in Waukegan, Illinois. During World War II, Lupe served in the U.S. Navy. After being discharged from the military he came to Newton, Kansas where he married Prudencia Elena “Helen” “Nena” Mosqueda on July 2, 1948. She died on August 31, 1998. Lupe had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years where he was a crane operator before retiring. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his son Miguel Corona; daughters Annabelle Camacho and husband Manuel, Maria Elena Southern, Amanda Fischer and husband Richard, and Rosalee Sanchez all of Newton; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The last few years Lupe enjoyed the companionship from his dog, Lady. Lupe is preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son Guadalupe Corona; brothers Gavino, Joe, Frank, and Jose; sisters Ramona Corona, Georgia Arellano, and Esther Davilla; son-in-laws Gregory Sanchez and Bob Southern; grandson Ricardo Sanchez; and great grandson Jessie Fisher-Stubbs. The casket will be open at the funeral home on Friday (Nov. 4) between 1:00 and 8:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday (Nov. 5) at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, Ks.
