Ljubica’s Obituary Ljubica Jurkovic October 5, 1940 – January 30, 2022 Ljubica (Ljuba) Jurkovic was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022 to be with the lord. Ljuba was born in Vitina, Bosnia Herzegovina on October 5, 1940. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ivan and Jurka Majic, son Patrick, seven sisters and two brothers. At a young age, Ljuba left Vitina at the urging of her family and made her way to Germany, where she met the love of her life, Ivan Jurkovic. They were married in Germany in 1967 and then made their way to Canada and ultimately Lansing, Michigan where they raised their family. Ljuba is survived by Ivan, her loving husband of 55 years, her sons and daughter-in-laws Oliver (Debbie) and Goran (Mandy) and four grandchildren that she adored, Josip, Christina, Nicklaus and Olivia, along with numerous family and friends. Ljuba was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother whose family meant everything to her. She worked at General Motors for 31 years, retiring in 2003. Her time in retirement was spent with family and annual trips with Ivan to their homeland of Croatia, where they have a home on the Adriatic Sea. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as Baka (grandmother in Croatian) and she quickly became “Baka” to all their friends, many of who still refer to her as Baka. She was a wonderful cook that never used a recipe card. Her chocolate chip cookies were a mainstay in the house and were part of most birthday celebrations the grandkids had at St. Gerard School. Ljuba was a devoted catholic her entire life. She always had a special place in her heart for St. Anthony of Padua. Dementia took our wife, mother and grandmother from us too early. She will be greatly missed but we know she has a prominent place in Heaven to watch over us. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 3rd at Palmer Bush from 5pm to 8 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Gerard Church on Friday February 4th at 10:30 am. The family will receive friends at St Gerard Church starting at 9:30 on Friday.
