Lewie’s Obituary Mr. Lewie Anderson Hughes age 84 of Plott Town Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully on Saturday October 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Mr. Hughes was born on February 4, 1938 in Young Harris, GA., the son of the late Floyd Hughes and the late Annie Mae Kuykendall Hughes. He was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. Lewie was a Rock, Brick and Block Mason by trade. There was never a day that he dreaded going to work. He loved spending time with all of his family. His family was his life. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Townsend Hughes in October 31, 2020 and three brothers, Frank, Albert and Clayton (Bud) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a Deacon and member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Hughes are four daughters and two sons in law, Tammy Hughes, Twyla and Dale Nicholson, Tonya and Alley Page and Tosha Hughes all of Young Harris, one sister, Maudine Fortenberry of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Justin Moody, Matthew and Melissa Youngblood, Andy and Kayla Page, Allison and Collin Waldrip, three great grandchildren, Maddi and Maverick Youngblood and Blakely Page, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday November 1, 2022 at 3:00 pm from the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Greg Bailey officiating. Special music will be presented by Marilyn Berrong, Danny and Tim Burch. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Dale Nicholson, Alley Page, Jonathan Owen, Matthew Youngblood, Justin Moody and Andy Page. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Terry Kirby and Gregg Fortenberry. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Hughes memory. Interment will be held in the Old Union Church Cemetery where he will rest next to his beloved wife Maxine. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12-2:30 pm.
