Lawrence (Larry) J. Miller, Jr., 94, of Washington, passed away at 12:45am Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka. Lawrence was born May 7, 1928 in Peoria to the late Lawrence J. and Sylvia L. Nave Miller. He married Theresa W. Scheirer on May 30, 1952 in Metamora; she preceded him in death in 2015. Surviving are their children, Barbara (Mike) Fahel, Rita (Joe) Ernst and Raymond Miller of Peoria, Mary (Randy) Ragains of Eureka, Lawrence (Valerie) Miller III of Washington,Phyllis DeWaard of Kanawha, IA, and Vincent (Linda) Miller of St. Louis, MO; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 7 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Rise Miller; siblings, Sondra McEnroe, Mary Tegtmeyer, and Phillip Miller; siblings-in-law, Evelyn Miller, Linda Miller, and Bernice Scheirer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Donald Miller, Maxine Gardner, Judy Miller, and Bernard Miller; daughter, Joan Miller; son-in-law John DeWaard; one grandson, one step-granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. Larry was a petty officer 2nd class in the Navy. He was stationed at Millington, TN from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1950. He and his family moved to Washington, IL in 1953 and he began working as an electrical engineer at WEEK-TV. He went on to work at Caterpillar in 1965, retiring in 1990. Both Larry and Theresa were members of St. Patrick Catholic Church until their deaths. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Menco Council and American Legion Post 100 in Washington. Larry was hobbyist and an avid collector of many things. He was grateful to be part of the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in September 27, 2016, a trip he enjoyed with his son Raymond. A funeral Mass for Lawrence will be held at 10:00am Thursday, September 29, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Recitation of the rosary will be at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington with visitation to follow from 4-6 pm. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
