Obituary Mrs. Latrell Ellis Dillingham, age 88, of Rome, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, August 24, 2022. Mrs. Dillingham was born in Polk County, GA on March 8, 1934, daughter of the late Louis Edward Ellis and the late Frances Inez Green Ellis. She was also preceded in death by her husband who she married on August 22, 1952, Harold D. Dillingham, in 1983, by her stepmother, Beatrice Connell Ellis, and by a sister, Montine Ellis Ball. Mrs. Dillingham attended Pepperell Schools until the 9th grade, then graduated from Rome High School in 1952. She was a stay-at-home mom until she began working with the Head Start Program. During this time, she pursued her Education degree at West Georgia College, graduating in 1974. Mrs. Dillingham retired from the Floyd County Board of Education following over 20 years of teaching Kindergarten and 1st grade at Pepperell Primary School. Following her retirement, she volunteered at Floyd Medical Center, the Baptist Association, and the Juvenile Court. Mrs. Dillingham was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Lindale where she served as a teacher for the Sybil Kilgo Sunday School Class, was a leader of Triple L., was active in the W. M. U., and was a facilitator for Baptist Women. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, A. D. K., and the Quota Club. Survivors include 3 children, Melody Dillingham Wirgau (Neil), Beloit, Wisconsin, Mark Dillingham (Lisa), Kennesaw, and Michille Dillingham Hyder (Tony), Cave Spring; 8 grandchildren, Joshua Wirgau (Ana), Jacob Wirgau (Allegra), Matthew Wirgau, Rebekah Garbalosa (Rob), Caleb Dillingham (Jennifer), Caleigh Pinto (Oscar), Luke Hyder (Giulianna), and Bethany Stevens (Jack); 6 great grandchildren, Elliot Garbalosa, Agnira Wirgau, Sophia Wirgau, Sutton Stevens, Sienna Stevens, and Luke “Luka” Hyder, Jr.; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11am at First Baptist Church of Lindale with her Pastor, the Rev. Eric Whelchel, and Barry Henderson officiating, with grandchildren sharing. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 5 until 7pm. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to First Baptist Church of Lindale, P. O. Box 26, Lindale, GA 30147. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
