A Memorial Service for Kenneth Lynn Mathews will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM at St. Rita Catholic Church with Deacon Kenny Sayes officiating. Services are under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will also be held August 13, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Memorial Baptist Church in Spring, Texas. Kenneth’s Pastor, Robby Pollard will be officiating this service. At exactly 5:00 AM in the morning on July 14, 2022, Kenneth Lynn Mathews (Kenny or Kenny boy) took his final breath on earth and is now in the arms of our Savior, Jesus. He endured an 8 month battle with the most aggressive lymphoma, always with determination and a smile on his face, and rang his bell in Heaven. He was the beloved son for 37 years of Lynn and Donna Mathews, lifelong brother to Clifton Mathews (and husband, Brian Lurie), cherished husband for 15 years and best friend for 23 years to Lida Mathews, loving father of Kenley (10) and Micah (3) Mathews, youngest grandson of T.C. Smith, Jr. and Barbara Smith, best brother/son-in-law to Lida’s family, and so much more to so many. The way he loved people around him will never end. Kenny was the best friend we always needed, insanely compassionate, servant leader, talented singer, and the best man we’ve ever known. His life and smile were his trademarks, his heart is bigger than Texas, and his hugs were the best. He would do anything for anyone and we know this won’t change. Kenneth attended Pineville High School (Class of 2002) and Louisiana Tech University (Class of 2006, Cum Laude) and graduated with a degree in Aviation Management. For 8+ years he was a Director for American Flyers in Houston and in Dallas where he met some of his best friends. Everyone who knew him loved him. Most recently, he worked as the Chief Financial Officer for Southern Star Brewery in Conroe, Texas which combined his love for craft beer with his love for organizing just about anything related to numbers and excel spreadsheets. He worked for the brewery until he couldn’t anymore, even in the chemo infusion room and hospitals. Everywhere he went or worked he met friends who became like family to him. He was a dedicated man of God and shepherded his people well at Village Park Church of Tomball, Texas. Almost the exact time of his diagnosis, he was honored as an Elder in the church and took his mission very seriously. He loved singing worship, running sound, being a small group leader, helping in kids ministry, serving as a camp counselor for the high school students, attending mission trips, and more. He has always held to the fact that in the end Jesus is what matters and he showed it with all of his heart. He continued to encourage others until the very end that the gift of Eternal life through Jesus was the most important. If you knew Kenny, you loved him. He could make people laugh at the drop of a hat. His love language was spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a huge fan of Star Wars, Batman, traveling, singing, eating fun foods and brewing craft beer. His infectious joy showed in every arena and he will be incredibly missed. He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents Ardie and Vivian Estes of Pineville, Louisiana; maternal great-grandparents, T.C. Smith, Sr. and Wyoma Smith of Pineville, Louisiana; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Alice Mathews of Alexandria, Louisiana; paternal aunt and uncle Michael and Blanche Mathews of Monroe, Louisiana; paternal aunt Judy Mathews of Alexandria, Louisiana; namesake and family friend, Kenny Messer of Alexandria, Louisiana; and a close family friend’s daughter, Chloe Grace Vogal of Huntsville, Texas. We know they are now rejoicing with him in Heaven. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St Jude Children’s Hospital in Kenny’s name. St Jude’s has been a favorite charity since college for both Lida and Kenny as they donated to them in Lieu of favors for their wedding in 2007. As hard as cancer was on Kenny, he always said he could not imagine life for our children with cancer.
