Obituary Please join us in mourning the loss of Kenn W. Speaks, 57, of Mercersburg, PA. Born June 21, 1965 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late James and Mary Speaks. Kenn was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1983. He later studied Computer Science at Hagerstown Business College, graduating in 2002. Kenn was employed for 20 years as a Digital Press Operator at Navitor Printing in Waynesboro. Before Navitor, he spent many years working at the Speaks family business, J & M Printing in Waynesboro. He was the owner and operator of “DJ Speaks” a personal DJ business that provided music and entertainment for weddings, reunions, and events in the tri-state area and beyond. His time as a ski and snowboard instructor began over 30 years ago at Liberty Mountain Resort and continued at Whitetail Resort for many seasons. He had also been a welder at Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, PA. Kenn was very involved in the Mercersburg community and with the Tuscarora Chamber of Commerce. He could always be found at any number of parades and festivals held throughout the years as well as at the annual tree lighting ceremony. Kenn was a kind and considerate man who was known and loved for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was fun and creative – his many interests included writing poetry, designing motion memos and making music parodies. Kenn loved his family fiercely and when he met you, you instantly became like family to him. He leaves behind his wife, Polly Stine Speaks; step-daughters, Shawna Leasure (Ryan) of Chambersburg and Mallory Hayes (Logan) of Mercersburg; grandchildren, Willow, Mason, Hayden and Brailey; brother, Gene Speaks (Deb) of York, PA; and sisters Susan Miller (Randy) of Waynesboro, Bonnie Speaks of Chambersburg, and Cathy Speaks Lewis (Mike) of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Lisa Vazquez (Jeff) of Chambersburg; brother-in-law, Harry Stine, Jr. of Conway, SC; as well as a host of beloved family and friends. In addition to his parents, Kenn was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Michael Speaks; and brothers-in-law, Michael Stine, Sr. and Paul D. Jones; as well as his niece, Grace Elizabeth Lewis, and his great-nephew, Austin C. Staley. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro where a memorial service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Whitetail Resort, Mercersburg, PA. All who knew and loved Kenn are welcome. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
