Kathleen Reinhardt Felton October 27, 1947 – May 30, 2022 Share this obituary View/Sign Guestbook PORTSMOUTH—Kathleen “Kitty” Diane Reinhardt Felton passed away May 30, 2022. Having suffered a stroke exactly two years ago in May 2020, she is finally able to walk, talk and watch over us again. She was born in Baltimore, MD on October 27, 1947 to the late Ellwood and Marilyn Shook Reinhardt. Kitty graduated from Maryview Nursing School in Portsmouth, VA in 1968. Here, she met the best group of women who remained lifelong friends. Throughout her life, she held many jobs as a registered nurse—in the ER, in labor and deliver, and as a nurse anesthetist—all at Maryview. She was also the head of the Riverside Psychiatric unit, the Riverside Drug and Alcohol Dependency unit, and worked as a Portsmouth Public School nurse for years. Kitty had just about seen it all in the field of medicine in her over 53 years as a nurse. Probably her most favorite nursing job, and one she continued working at until the day before her stroke, was being a psychiatrist nurse. She was passionate about assisting patients suffering from mental illness and found ways to help them—though she was known to get in a scuffle or two with many! In addition to her parents, Kitty was predeceased by her husband, Charles Alan “Pappy” Felton, to whom she was married for 33 years. Pappy, glad you had a rest the last few years, because Kitty is now back with you and has a lot to talk to you about! She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Susan Hoofnagle Hodges, and her two grandchildren, Katherine “Kit” Hodges and James “Artie” Hodges, all of Chesapeake, VA. Her most favorite job was being “Grandma Kitty” to Kit and Artie! She was often found adjusting her schedule according to whatever her grandchildren needed. She was a steadfast presence in our lives, as well as our rock! There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High Street in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Portsmouth Humane Society or Oasis Social Ministry in Downtown Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
