June 29 1924 August 5 2022
June’s Obituary June Stewart Wolff passed from this life in the early hours of Friday, August 5, 2022, at the age of ninety-eight, having lived a fulfilled, joyful, and rewarding life. She was born and grew up in Baltimore, graduating from Seton Catholic High School in 1941. In 1942, she married the love of her life and lifelong partner Elmer J. “Lobo” Wolff. The couple celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary in January 2012, just seven months before Lobo’s passing at age ninety-three. June and Elmer moved to Hampton in 1944 when he went to work for NACA, to become part of NASA in 1958. They made their home in Hampton for the rest of their lives, raising three daughters and being active members of the community. The three most important things in June’s life were her family, her church, and her time on the Chesapeake Bay with Elmer. Nothing delighted her more than her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, watching them grow up and taking part in their lives. June was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for 74 years. Rain or shine, sleet, or snow, she could be found at the eight o’clock service. She was also active in the church’s St. Anne’s Guild. For forty plus years, June also gave her time and organizational talents as a volunteer to the Auxiliary of Hampton General, now Sentara Hospital. Throughout their lives together, June and Elmer owned several different boats, being members of the Hampton Yacht Club for sixty-seven years. Weekends, holidays, and vacations would find Elmer and his ever enthusiastic “first mate” June exploring the creeks, rivers, and bays of the Chesapeake. They always seemed to be as much or more at home on the water as they were on dry land. Nothing characterized June’s zest for life more than her relish of her favorite cocktail, a Manhattan, which she enjoyed each day at five o’clock, whether sitting on the boat looking out over Hampton Creek, or from her porch, watching the birds in her backyard. June was preceded in death by husband Elmer and granddaughter Susan Koger. She is survived by daughters Tina Koger (Tom), Susan Burdette, and Eileen Weldon (Bill), five grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one great greatgrandchild. The family wishes to thank the ministry and members of St. Anne’s Guild at St. John’s for their support, especially in the last months of her life. They would also like to express their heartfelt and enduring gratitude to all the caregivers who attended and aided June, making possible her desire to stay in her home through the remainder of her life. A Celebration service will be conducted at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hampton, VA, at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 by Rev. Samantha Vincent-Alexander. A reception will follow in the Parish House. Gifts of remembrance In June’s honor may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hampton, VA, or to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Read More
