View Tribute Book Joyce Helen Karchner, 68, of Sugarloaf passed away Thursday at Geisinger Medical Center. Born on February 12, 1954, in Abington, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Burton W. and Gertrude E. (Zane) Van Dyke. Joyce was a 1972 graduate of Jenkintown High School and later went on to attend Penn State University, High Acres in Hazleton, Pennsylvania where she graduated with an associate degree. She was always smiling and full of joy. She loved many things, some of her favorites were gardening, crocheting, reading, and watching the hummingbirds she lovingly called Karen and Sharon. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family. The perfect day for Joyce would be a day outdoors with the grandchildren playing in and experiencing nature. One of her most cherished memories was a spending time with her family in the Outer Banks, NC, enjoying the beach and early mornings with the dolphins. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was a brother, Burt W. Van Dyke. Surviving is her husband of 48 years, Martin C. Karchner, daughter, Triona E. Marlatt and her husband Ryan L., daughter, Leanne M. Nagle and her husband Nathan M., son, Martin R. Karchner, grandchildren, Alexis Nagle, Samantha and Sean Marlatt, Logan Nagle, also several friends of her children that she considered her bonus children. A public Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith United Church of Christ, 21 Faith Drive Hazleton, PA, 18202. Rev. Dr. M. Jane Hess will preside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation in Joyce’s name to the Hazleton Area Public Library, 55 N Church St, Hazleton, PA 18201 or Faith UCC Church 21 Faith Dr, Hazleton, PA 18202.
