John Wilson Hatcher, Jr., of Martinsville, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday evening, November 23, 2022. He was 79 years old. He enjoyed studying the King James Version of The Bible and was a devoted member of Shepherd’s Chapel. He enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, and could play any song very skillfully on his guitar. He had a photographic memory and a very analytical mind. This gave him the ability to visually conceptualize and sketch schematic diagrams, architectural blueprints, diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical systems in vehicles, and build anything he set his mind to. Per John’s prearranged request, no funeral services will be held. John’s wish was to have the following scriptures contained in his obituary: Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
