Obituary Mount Carmel – John (Jack) Julian Tomaschik, 87, of Mount Carmel, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. John was born November 7, 1934, to Kathryn (Griglak) and John Tomaschik. John graduated from Shamokin High School in 1952. He served in the US Army from 1955-58 stationed in Germany where he worked as an Aide to General Guest. He married the former Barbara DeGaetano on May 5, 1962, in the Church of the Holy Family in Washington, D.C. His career path took him from humble beginnings working for Arrow Shirts, where he met his future wife, to health spa owner and finally as a supervisor in the PA House of Representatives. John was an avid fisherman and hunter and especially enjoyed many years of fishing trips that took him all over the world where he brought many Northern Pike home to share with family and friends. His biggest catch was a yellowfin tuna caught off the coast of Hawaii which he generously gave to a young soldier on leave who had a large family. John was a quiet man who once said “I learn more by listening to others who don’t need to know my opinions.” John also loved his Bethany Bible Church family who brought him joy with their caring, honesty, and companionship. His friendship with Jim and Elaine Ketner will last an eternity. Alan and Polly Hoot shared family vacations, laughter, tears, and many years of a loyal friendship. John is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 60 years, his children, Ian, Lisa (Tony Engelke), and Nicolas, and eight grandchildren, Ashley (Doyle Moon), Gaby (Cody Shaker), Jonathan (Katrina), Rachael (Chris Howeter) Rileigh, Emma, Barbara, and Sophie. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Anauka, Hunter, Willow, Meadow, and Rhett. He also has 2 more great-grandbabies on the way in August and September. Also, surviving are his brother-in-law, Al DeGaetano and his wife Barbara and John’s sister-in-law, Gloria DeGaetano and her husband David Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews.
