John Christopher Sherman or “Chris” 74 passed away from complications from Alzheimer’s at his home in Kansas City, MO on Monday, May 9th, 2022. He was born to parents Charles Sherman IV and Lela Dunaway, on February 28th, 1948 in St, Louis Missouri. He was married to Mary Julia Thurman in 1969, who survives him. John is also survived by daughter Christy Welshon (Scott), son John Sherman Jr (Carla), son Gregory Sherman (Kelly), son Bradley Sherman, son Michael Sherman (Brandy), and daughter… Meghann Hart (Brian). He is survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. John played baseball and was a member of the state championship team his senior year at Ritenour High School in 1966. After graduation, John went to work for the railroad which led him to a 44 year career in which he retired from in 2010 from the BNSF Railway. His dedication and knowledge of trains was a central passion of his. Some of his children’s fondest memories are of going to work with Dad and a few have even followed his career path. John spent his youth and young adulthood in St Louis. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and when he was younger he would take the bus to Busch Stadium which is where his love of the game began. Since then, each year he enjoyed following the team and its successes. John loved his wife, kids, and grandchildren and always saw the best in them. He genuinely loved to see them happy and enjoyed taking part in it. John will be memorialized on May 14th, 2022 at 3pm at Sounder Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 2pm.
