John “Big John” David Seigle, Sr. August 8, 1945 – September 30, 2022 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card “Big John” John David Seigle, Sr., 77, of Shelbyville and formerly of Spencer County, died Friday, September 30, 2022 at his home. A native of Spencer County, he was one of 20 children of the late Maynard Commodore and Nettie Cowherd Seigle. His career began as a part of the Jefferson County Road Crew. He then worked several years for Worthington Steel. Later, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff, Constable and Prisoner Transport Officer for over 20 years. He counted himself fortunate to have been blessed to work for the Red Cross, assisting citizens all across the country following hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and other natural disasters. Among his many accomplishments, he was instrumental in the capture of one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching old westerns and crime shows. After retiring, he traveled all over the United States in a motor home and then settled for a period of time in Beaufort, South Carolina. In addition to his parents, his first wife and love of his life and the mother of his children, Carol Wimsatt Seigle, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Darlene Seigle of Beaufort, SC; his son, John David Seigle, Jr. (Heather) of Shelbyville; his daughter, Melissa Ann Baker (Mark) of Burkesville; his stepson, Anthony Jacobs (Sandy) of Louisville; his stepdaughter, Tonya Holland of Sellersburg, IN; six grandchildren, Ian Seigle, Sydney Seigle, Austin Madera, Cole Holland, Benjamin Jacobs and Trinity Jacobs and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Webb Funeral Home with visitation after 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, where he will be laid to rest beside his first wife, Carol.
