Joann “Joanie” Messina (nee Blake), age 87, a resident of Macomb Twp. Michigan. She entered into eternal life on Friday, July 8, 2022. Born in Detroit with her twin, the late Joyce Moakley, to their mother, the late Irene Blake (nee Green). She is survived by her beloved children Linda Colton, Joseph Messina, Joyce (Joseph) Frontera and Theresa (Robert) Zola. Proud grandmother to Christine (Sean) Sutton, Kevin (Yolanda) Colton, Courtney (Brian) Hodare, Nicole (Chris) Munsterman, Bradley Messina, Allesandra (Alex) Vandervert and Anthony Frontera. Cherished great-grandmother to Justin and Luke Colton, Benjamin and Jack Hodare, Connor and Rebecca Munsterman, Lincoln, Theodore and Ophelia Vandervert. Joanie was predeceased by her husband, Louis, and her daughter Donna Patzer. She was a stay-at-home mother until her children were well into their elementary school years. She then found employment with General Safety Corporation where she retired after 30 years. She loved her many work friends and enjoyed becoming a member of their bunco card club, bowling team and their famous holiday parties- plus their annual retiree get-togethers. Joanie had an open door policy. She loved entertaining and hosting social events. She will be missed for her famous cinnamon rolls, orange cookies and fruit pies because the crust was so yummy. A visitation will be held at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd, Utica (3 blocks east of Van Dyke) on Tuesday, July 12th, from 3-8 pm. Family and friends will gather for a Christian Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 13th, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 48115 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Twp. (North of 21 Mile Rd).
