Joan’s Obituary Joan (“Boots”) Ilgenfritz, age 91, died on January 16, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Edward Ilgenfritz Jr. (late); devoted mother of Mark Ilgenfritz (Pat) and Kathleen Gail Beebe (late) and Kevin (late); loving grandmother of Eddie Ilgenfritz, Matthew Beebe (Honey) and Kevin Beebe; loving great grandmother of Robert Beebe, Kaleb Beebe and Konner Wilson, dear sister of Rosalie Causey (late) and Dorothy Schaffner (late); and dear aunt of Sharon Covey and Louis Causey (late), Judith Ulrich and Joseph Schaffner (late). In her younger life, having a close relationship with her father, a World War 1 Navy Petty Officer, she enjoyed outings involving Navy activities and sea life. Her nickname (Boots) was given to her by her father, which is a Navy term for a new recruit. She enjoyed attending many Army-Navy games in Philadelphia with her Army veteran husband and together they enjoyed cheering against each other. Her husband, Ed, was the love of her life and together they had two children. She had an interesting career working in hospitals and human services starting as a Laboratory Technician. Her hobbies were singing, cooking, home decorating (particularly the Victorian period), vegetable gardening and canning, and landscaping her beloved country home. She also enjoyed trips to the beach to fly her favorite kite. At age 74, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Gerontology from Towson University. She found many ways to support her senior community by cards, visits, and phone calls. She gave countless hours to volunteer service at GBMC Hospital, her church, and the Korean War Veterans Association. She deeply cared about the USNS Comfort Hospital Ship and followed its deployments and missions. She was a very patriotic person and strived to make the world a better place to live. We will miss her dearly. Due to the concerns of COVID, visitation and service will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Joan’s name to Parkville Baptist Church, 3309 Taylor Avenue, Parkville, Maryland 21234. Read More
