Obituary Jo Ann Brooks, born in Huntsville on Dec. 7, 1940, passed on Wednesday morning. As a civilian clerk, she attracted the attention of a young soldier attending missile school at Redstone. She became the center of his world. She was a fun person and she enjoyed playing games, being with her family, attending church, traveling, playing golf, reading books, and visiting with friends. She was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She served in leadership positions in Christian Women’s Club and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Brooks; sisters, Edna Billions and Laura Smith; brothers, Buddy, Bill, and John Bryant; and great-granddaughter, Lexi. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Jon) Newby, and Beverly (Tommy) White; four grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be 12-2pm Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2pm at the funeral home chapel with Brother Kenneth Smith officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Veterans’ section.
