Jerry Dean Burgess, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:41 pm March 24, 2022 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor. He was born June 10, 1943 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to the late Lilburn and Louise (York) Burgess. Jerry married Theresa (Carpenter) Burgess on July 28, 1972 in Beecher, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 50 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Jerry is survived by his sons, Travis Burgess of Mount Vernon and Jesse Burgess of Los Angeles, California; daughter, Anitra Klestinski and husband, Jonathan of Saint Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Justus, Matthias, and Charley; brothers, John Burgess and wife, Judy of Momence, Illinois and Dee Burgess and wife, Donna of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Cliffanta Brozowski of Kankakee, Illinois and Diana Deem and husband, Chris of Michigan; best friend and boss, Kitty Irwin of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by Father, Lilburn Burgess, Mother, Louise Burgess. Jerry was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed fishing. He was also a sports pilot. Jerry was a dedicated maintenance worker at Tanglewood Apartments for many years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jerry will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date at Faith Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made in Jerry’s honor to the Burgess family, in care of Theresa Burgess.
