Her final days were spent surrounded by family. Janet was born in Superior, Neb. , on March 1, 1935 to Joseph and Gladys Boyd. Janet attended Superior High School, where she was the drum majorette for the marching band. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. After graduation, she spent a year studying abroad in France. Janet was a member of Pi Beta Phi, Order of the Eastern Star, The University of Nebraska Alumni Association, Genesis United Methodist Church in Fort Worth and was a life-long Cornhuskers fan. Janet was an accomplished soprano in church choir, often as the soloist singing “O Holy Night” for Christmas services. Her professional life included Director of Microbiology at several hospitals, Director of Microbiology at Baxter-Travenol and Civilian Director of Microbiology at Joint Base Carswell. Survivors: Husband, Raymond Mamaclay of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Guy Joel Sykes of Arlington, Texas; daughters, Theresa Sykes-Gray of Fort Worth, Texas and Sandra Sykes of Pottsboro, Texas; stepdaughters, Barbara O’Connor of Palm Coast, Fla., Jo-Anne Sykes-Pacheco of Palm Coast, Fla., and Debra Kelly of Avon, Ohio; stepson, Joe Schulz of St. Paul, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Kelly Thomas of Cleveland, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Wesley Boyd; mother, Gladys Boyd; brother, Don Boyd; sister, Eleanor Boyd; and great-granddaughter, Lydia Sykes. Funeral: 12 p.m. Saturday July 30, 2022, in Greenwood Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday July 29, 2022, at Greenwood. Burial: August 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Neb. Minister: Pastor Natalie Faust Megrue-Price Funeral Home in charge of the local arrangements.
