James “Jim” H. Curnow, 91, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022. Jim was born and raised in Flint, Michigan to William and Olive (Webster) Curnow on June 29, 1931. He graduated from Flint Central and earned his Associates Degree from Flint Junior College upon his return home, after proudly serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Jim worked at Mechanics Laundry in Flint until 1972, when he relocated his family to their family cottage on Elk Lake making it their family home. He was a salesman for Grand Traverse Overall until his retirement. Fishing on Elk Lake was his favorite pastime and he often came in with the “catch of the day.” Jim also enjoyed hunting, golf, playing cards with family and friends, following the Michigan Wolverines sports teams and the Detroit Red Wings. He was a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions and will be remembered for always saying “next year!” The middle of five children, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother William Curnow; sisters Daisy C. Hall and Rose Sherbino; and step-great grandson Ambrose Sullivan. Jim will be dearly missed by his daughters Susan Curnow and Cheryl (William) Sullivan; grandchildren Natalie (Groesser) Hatton and Patrick Sullivan; great-grandchildren Andrew, Nikolas, Alexander and Logan Hatton; step-grandchildren Jason (Sarah) and Chris (Ali) Sullivan; step-great grandchildren Riley, Owen and Charlotte Sullivan; sister Grace Gray; sister-in-law Virlena Curnow and their extended families. Per Jim’s request, a private service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
