Jack Hatchel, 84, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at his home. He was born August 30, 1938 in Champaign County, Illinois, the son of Eddie Sylvin and Pearle (Bridges) Hatchel. He graduated from high school in Atwood, Illinois with the class of 1956. Jack worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 41 years as a controls technician. He retired in 1997. He was a lifelong member of the NRA (National Rifle Association). He was an avid KU fan, along with Chicago Bears and Cubs. He was united in marriage to Carol Jo Christian on February 6, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pesotum, Illinois. She survives after 63 years of marriage. Jack is also survived by his son, Ed (Brenda) Hatchel of rural Haven; two grandchildren, Kristen (Brandon) Bourlier of Columbus, GA, and Cory (Chelsea) Hatchel of Lee’s Summit, MO; two great-granddaughters, Harper and Eden Hatchel; three sisters, Florence (Don) Laughlin of Atwood, IL, Linda Schull of Villa Grove, IL, and Minnie Vandeventer of Camargo, IL; and one brother, Harlan Hatchel of Tuscola, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2022 at Buhler Mennonite Church, 220 W Ave B, Buhler, KS 67522. Following a meal, burial will be at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, KS. Family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society in care of Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 217, Haven, KS 67543.
