Funeral services for Ida Abaiy Springer, 96, of Bridgeport, will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 31, at Sycamore Baptist Church in Sycamore. Burial will follow at Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8 pm at Hudson and Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Ida passed away at her home on December 26, 2022. Pallbearers include Jacob Cornelison, Caleb Cornelison, Gerald Springer, Jeff Alexander, Cory Alexander, and Monty Hale. Ida was born on August 3, 1926, to Frank Abaiy and Anna Burger Abaiy in Bronx, New York. She married O’Neal L. Springer on December 31, 1945. She made a career as a homemaker and was also a postal employee in Fort Worth, Texas. Ida was an active member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Traveling was something she enjoyed; her favorite trips were to Alaska and Israel. Ida was baptized in the Jordan River. She was an avid gardener, food canner and enjoyed weekly domino games. In recent years, she enjoyed making “Granny Necklaces.” Ida is survived by daughters Karen Hawkins of Decatur, Donna Alexander of Burlington, North Carolina; son, David Springer of Bridgeport, daughter in law and primary caregiver, Jo Ann Springer; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
