Obituary Ms. Helen Ruth Person Foxx, first graced us with her presence on Saturday, June 1st, 1940. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late David and Artelia Hussey Person. She was called home to reside and take rest with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Helen received her primary education from Lee County Schools. She attended and played basketball at W.B. Wicker High where she graduated as a member of the class of 1959. Upon completion of her education she and her daughter Barbara moved to New York and a few years later moved to Washington, DC where she was employed by the District of Columbia Public School System where she held several positions before being promoted to Head Cafeteria Manager. She loved ensuring that each meal was prepared with love and that no student went unfed. After becoming a member of the Food Service Association, she held various positions while continuing to further her education through workshops and conferences, receiving many awards and acknowledgments. After 25 years of dedicated service, she retired in 1994 while working at Shaw Juinor High School. Helen confessed to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of her family church, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church here in Sanford, NC. While living in DC she was an active and committed member of Galilee African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Reverends Wanda London and Rita Williams where she was a longtime member of the Usher Board, Steward Board, and the Missionary Society. After retirement, she moved back to Sanford, NC where she reunited with her home church New Zion where she attended and remained a faithful member until God gave her her wings. Helen, “Foxxy” as she was affected called was a loving Mother, Mother-in-Law, Nana, Sister, Auntie, and Friend who loved her family more than any of them would ever know. Whenever you needed anything she was always there! She always had a smile ready to share, a joke, and words of advice you may not want to hear but she always kept it real. Helen was a woman of wisdom and prayer. Her three Grandchildren along with her beloved Chihuahua, Cinnamon were the jewels in her crown. She loved to cook and prepare meals for her family and gather her siblings together to share time around a good meal. Helen enjoyed all types of crafts, gardening, traveling, football and had a love for the game of Tennis especially when Venus, Serena, or CoCo were playing. She was an avid collector of any and everything, especially things that came from QVC. She was a member of the Golden Adventures in Harnett County until her health began to decline. There is so much that could be said about Helen. She loved life and lived it to the fullest, but her greatest joy was her only daughter who she loved to the moon and back, and her daughter who loves her more than that. Helen was preceded in eternal rest by her parents David and Artelia Person, her sisters, Hazel Lee, Ophelia P. Dunn, Alice Bennett, and her brother Louis Person. Her memory and legacy are cherished by her daughter Barbara Mosley and her son-in-law (Son) Denard of Lillington, NC; her spirit continues to grace us in her only granddaughter Dr. Tiffany Tobin of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons Da’lan Mosley of Lillington, NC, and Malik Mosley of Charlotte, NC adopted son/brother David Hooker (Carolyn); one sister Joyce Brady of Jamaica, New York; two brothers John D Person (Ruby) of Sanford, NC and James Person (Nancy) Sanford, NC. Honored family members Clinton Swann (Donna). In addition, Helen was survived by a host of well-loved Nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, as well as cousins, extended family, and a well of friends and classmates.
