Harvey Ray Mitchem, age 79, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He was born in Mayberry, WV on September 22, 1942, to the late Carl Mitchem and Virgie Mitchem. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles Mitchem, Morris (Red) Mitchem, Michael Mitchem, and Mark Mitchem; one sister, Brenda Mitchem Starcher. Harvey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Mitchem; children, Rocky Mitchem, Crystal Macknight (Larry), Donnie Mitchem (Julia), Michelle Leisey (Robert); thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; brother, William Calvin Mitchem; sister, Barbara Ann Mitchem; special friends. Bob and Sue Leonard; and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital in memory of Harvey. A gathering of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 beginning at noon at Garrett Funeral Home. A service will begin at 1:00 PM in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home.
