Harriet “Terre” “Terriett” “Jadzia” “Muz” “Yaya” Marie Pawlowicz, 83 of Traverse City and Suttons Bay, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at Orchard Creek Supportive Care, after a long-fought battle against Parkinson’s Disease. Born on October 28, 1938 in East Detroit, MI, Harriet was the first born child to Felix and Stella Regulinski. She married Richard Pawlowicz on April 27, 1963 in Detroit, MI. After moving to the Northern Michigan Area in 1971, they continued to raise four wonderful children together. Actively involved in her children’s school, sports and music activities, Harriet continued to enjoy the same role for her grandchildren as well. Multi-talented, Harriet worked as a secretary, did bridal alterations, and at one time worked as a “sample person” at Meijer (the saying “a stranger is just someone you haven’t met yet” is something she absolutely lived by). She found many ways to be active in her community over the years: ushering for the Cherry County Play House, working the voter booths for Suttons Bay and Elmwood, collaborating on the Suttons Bay Sesquicentennial celebration, and volunteering for the Cherry Festival. Her hobbies included: reading (especially newspapers), sewing, cake decorating, ceramics, coupon clipping and crossword puzzles. Always observant, she would be the first to acknowledge a beautiful sunset, or a group of swans on the bay. Terre and Richard were avid polka and waltz dancers; often complemented for their skills while on the dance floor. They could be seen twirling around at the Eagles, VFW Halls or Polka Festival. With her long legs, Harriet enjoyed walking for exercise. She participated in many Mackinac Bridge Walks and while at Orchard Creek she was often striding along the TART trail. As a woman of faith, Harriet was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Parish in Suttons Bay, including being a first grade CCD teacher with her friend Martha. More than a few prayers were sent to St. Anthony during a search for a misplaced item or two, and St. Joseph was always ready to assist with the sale of a house. St. Francis was also a favorite, most likely for his love of ecology. For many years, she attended the Christian Women United Lenten Luncheons with her friends Linda and Vel. Harriet was grateful for the visiting Eucharist Ministers from St. Patrick’s who came to Orchard Creek. Terre is survived by her children James (Greta) Pawlowicz, Kathryn (Jason) Lake, Karen (Ned) Shafer, Matthew (Cyndi) Pawlowicz; grandchildren Madeline, Nicholas and Maryn Pawlowicz, Brandon Chamberlain, Logan (Jamie) Chamberlain, step-grandsons Brandon and Hunter; great-granddaughter Tula; and her brother Raymond (Diane) Regulinski, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Richard. A Catholic mass and services for Harriet will take place in the spring and inurnment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Suttons Bay, MI. Memorial contributions in her honor may be directed to Parkinson’s Network North, St. Michaels Church, or Hospice of Michigan. The family would like to especially thank Hospice of Michigan and the staff at Orchard Creek Supportive Care. Kindly share thoughts and memories with Harriet’s family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.
