Smith, 62, of Mendota, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 17, 2022 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Gerri was born September 28, 1960 in Spring Valley to George and Gail (Pratt) Whittington. She married Charlie Smith on June 28, 1994. Gerri graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1978. Afterwards, she attended beauty school at Illinois Valley Community College and worked as a beautician at the Peru Mall. During her tenure at Eakas Corporation, she met her beloved husband Charlie and had the opportunity to travel to Japan with the company. Gerri was a true jack of all trades and also worked as a CNA, medical billing assistant, dental assistant, EVS, and caregiver. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Mendota and enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with family, friends and her dogs. She is survived by her husband Charlie of Mendota who will dearly miss his “Sweetie”; daughter Sara (Mike) Azzaline of Orland Park; two sons Greg (Sheri) Smith of Granville and Tim (Paula) Smith of Seymour, Indiana; mother Gail (Elmer LS) Drapeau of Commerce City, Colorado; brother Jesse Whittington of Commerce City, Colorado; sister Deborah Sandoval of Las Vegas, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and two step sisters Marla Drapeau and Vida Drapeau both of Denver. She was preceded in death by her father, her father and mother in law Herman and Alberta Smith; her brother in law Jody Smith and two step brothers Larry Drapeau and J.R. Drapeau. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
