(Gerrie) Suarez, age 87 passed away peacefully Sunday, November 20, 2022. Gerrie was born in San Luis Obispo CA, on January 10, 1935, and was the only child of Ignacio (Ed) H. and Amelia R. (Mena) Garner. She grew up spending most of her childhood on her grandparent’s ranch in the hills of SLO. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1952 and attended Business College shortly after. She was a legal secretary in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara for over 30 years. She was happily married to her late husband, Lupe Suarez for 57 years. Gerrie was a devout catholic and attended Queen of Angels and La Purisima Catholic Churches in Lompoc. Gerrie loved to dance to the tunes of Elvis, go shopping, play the slot machines, and enjoyed a nice glass of chardonnay in the evenings. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Lupe Suarez, Gerrie was preceded in death by her parents. Gerrie is survived by her children, Sharon (Joe) Pensabene, Jeff (Donna) Suarez, and Steven Suarez. Her grandchildren, Maralee Pensabene, Jennifer Pensabene, Phillip Suarez, Robert Suarez, Angelina Ortega, and Joseph Pensabene IV. She also had 14 great-grandchildren whom she adored. Gerrie will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her. The family thanks the wonderful team of doctors and staff from Lompoc Skilled Nursing. A viewing will be held at Starbuck-Lind (123 North A Street) in Lompoc on November 30, 2022, from 5-6 pm followed by a Rosary at 6 pm. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 10 am at La Purisima Catholic Church (213 West Olive Ave, Lompoc). Internment is immediately following at Old Mission Cemetery (101 Bridge Street San Luis Obispo, CA). In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation to Catholic Charities in Lompoc.
