George Thomas Olsen July 30, 1945 – December 26, 2022 Share this obituary Upload Photo| View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card George Thomas Olsen, 77, of Fox Point, Wisconsin, died December 26, 2022 at his home. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Evelyn Olsen and was raised in Wauconda, Illinois. He attended UW-Stout until he was drafted to serve in Vietnam, and instead enlisted in the Air Force from 1966 to 1969. He served at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon as an air traffic controller where he learned to sleep through a bomb siren. Upon completion of his service, he completed his Bachelors in Industrial Arts Education in 1973. He moved to Clintonville, Wisconsin in 1974 where he taught high school shop class for a number of years and raised his family. George had a passion for building and fixing things. He built his family home and lakeside cottage. For decades, he worked as a millwright for Curwood in New London, Wisconsin. He used to say the only thing he couldn’t fix was a broken heart. He was a jack of all trades and a master of most of them. George loved being a father to Wendy and Karen and said being a parent was the best thing he ever did. He was a doting grandfather to Amanda and Thomas. He was married and divorced twice. George was always looking for a way to make someone smile or laugh. He was a friend and mentor to many, especially at the local diners he liked to frequent. George was predeceased by his parents, Charles Raymond and Evelyn (Danovsky) Olsen, formerly of Wauconda, Illinois. George is survived by his brother, John (Joanne) Olsen of Palatine, Illinois; his daughters, Wendy (Dan) Sabin of Danvers, Massachusetts and Karen Olsen of Fox Point; his grandchildren, Amanda Sabin and Thomas Daso; his nephew, Mark (Alicia) Olsen of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; and his niece, Kathleen Olsen (Rohan Zalani), of Chicago, Illinois. Please join his family and friends on December 30, 2022 at Feerick Funeral Home. Memorial Visitation begins at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin or Gigi’s Playhouse of Milwaukee.
