Tribute George Lawrence Walters February 11, 1941-October 5, 2022 George “Lawrence” Walters passed on to his heavenly reward on Wednesday October 5, 2022, with his wife, Carol, and two daughters, Valerie Nafe’ and Corina Rae at his bedside. He was born February 11, 1941, in Bushnell, Illinois to Albert and Katherine Walters, and was the fourth of five children. He graduated from Clarkston High School, joined the Marine Core in 1960, making it a career as a data analysist for twenty-one years. During his years of service, he took college classes and received his BA in Economics and Business Administration. He married Cheryl Rae Ebel in 1966 and together they raised four “perfect” children, Valerie Nafe’, Corina Rae, Tara Jean, and Vincent Allen, whom Lawrence loved with all his heart. Ending his military career in 1981, having earned the rank of Master Sergeant, he moved his family to Spokane, Washington where he worked for Safeco Insurance Co. until 1991 as a Senior Property Adjuster. Lawrence pursued many passions throughout his life, among them were sky diving, horseshoe tournaments, and bicycle racing and touring. He began a bicycle safety program in the schools while living in Spokane. In his later years he bowled on a senior league and wrote four books about his life experiences. The latest one will be going to print soon and will be available for purchase. In 1996, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Walters, whom he referred to as “the essence of second chances”. They enjoyed traveling in their little Scamp trailer to many beautiful National parks and took the opportunity to fly “military stand-by” to Europe and Alaska to visit his daughter, Tara Jean. They worked together in their church, the Albany First Church of God where Lawrence served as the chairman of the board. He loved the Lord and lived to please Him. He worked as an administrator with Albany Helping Hands, fulfilling a need to help the homeless. Lawrence was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000 but didn’t let that stop him from accomplishing his goals. In November of 2018, he moved to Waverly Place Assisted Living where he and Carol made many new friends, and he received excellent care. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister-in-law, Lois Walters, his four children, Valerie Nafe’, Corrina Rae Walters, Tara Jean McCrum, and her husband, Erin; and Vincent Allen Walters, and his wife, Mary; and his seven grandchildren: Michaela, Katherine, Isaac, Jack, Samantha, Ethan and Silas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Robert, Russell, and Louis, a sister, Janet, and his ex-wife, Cheryl. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, October 29, at 10:30 at the Albany First Church of God on 1225 15th Ave. SW, Albany, Oregon, 97321. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Online condolences may be left at aasum-dufour.com.
