Obituary On June 10, 2022, Fenton “The Old Man” Billings hung up his shop apron and passed peacefully from this mortal life. Fenton was born on March 22, 1937 to Anna and Gerald Billings in Delta, Utah. He was the tenth of eleven children. He graduated from Utah State University in 1960, and shortly thereafter married his lifelong companion, Jackie Ewing. That fall he began teaching industrial arts at Springville High School where he shaped the lives of thousands of students as he taught and worked alongside them building furniture and character to last a lifetime. Fenton “retired” from teaching in 2000 but didn’t leave the shop behind. Swapping his polos for plain white t-shirts, he volunteered for 22 additional years assisting his son, Scott, who followed in his sawdust footprints as the SHS shop teacher. He served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but he most enjoyed serving as Executive Secretary for a student ward in Orem. He loved working with kids. His generosity was unbounded. He quietly served any who were in need. Family, friends, neighbors, and church leaders knew who to call when something needed to be built or repaired. Fenton never turned them away. Fenton is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children Richard, Annette, Sherylyn, Elizabeth, Scott, and Chris; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his three remaining siblings; Arlene, Wanda and Bryce. A funeral service to honor his life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11:00 am at 860 E. 200 N., Springville, UT 84663. Viewings are scheduled for Wednesday, June 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Wheeler Mortuary at 211 E. 200 S. in Springville and at the church before the service from 9:30-10:30 am.
