Obituary Evelyn Jean Pearson, age 76, of Godfrey, IL and formerly of Detroit, IL passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was born July 19, 1946, in Mozier, IL to Leo Lawrence and Henrietta Webb Dwyer. Evelyn married John H. Pearson September 29, 1972, in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death February 17, 2020. Evelyn grew up in Panther Creek Hollow in Calhoun County and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1964. Following graduation, she moved to Alton to attend beauty school; after graduating she owned and operated beauty salons in Kampsville and Detroit. Evelyn worked side by side with John at their market in Detroit and at TJ’s Ice Cream and continued on after moving to Godfrey where they ran Pearson’s Produce together for over 34 years. She also managed the Wonder Hostess Thrift Store and enjoyed being a ‘sample lady’ at Sam’s Club. However, her favorite job was peddling cantaloupe and peaches off the back of her truck across the river. In her spare time, she enjoyed mowing her lawn and tending to her flowers. In earlier years, she and John loved attending dances and music shows. Evelyn was an outstanding baker and could always be counted on to have a sweet treat for guests anytime they stopped by for a visit. She was a hard-working and dedicated woman who was always well put together and ready for a shopping trip. Evelyn is survived by her children, Tanya Stanton of Alton, IL, Tasha (Kent) Davis of Pittsfield, IL and Tyler (Mary Kay Stamper) Pearson of Godfrey, IL; stepdaughter, Donna Burrows of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Jordan (Isaiah Croft), Caden Stanton, London Stanton, Madalene (AJ) Klocke, Gabrielle Davis, Mason Davis, Taylor Pearson, Jonathan Pearson and Allie Turner; step-grandchildren, Gabriel Burrows, Daniel Burrows and Victoria Wood; great-grandchildren, Lauren Klocke and Crew Croft; step-great-grandchildren, Damion Wood, Emily Wood, Caitlyn Wood, John Campbell, Cory Campbell and Minko Ball; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Henrietta Dwyer; her loving husband of 47 years, John H. Pearson; sisters, Betty Lee McKinnon and Bonnie Tolbert; and stepdaughter, Janet Pearson. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home with visitation held prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to be left to Detroit Town Hall or Evelyn’s House Hospice Care Center.
