Vokes Sr. 89, of New Kensington passed away on Thursday November 17, 2022 in his home. He was born April 14, 1933 to the late Benjamin George and Agnes Rose Vokes. He was one of 13 children. Gene enjoyed walking around Burrell Lake Park, shopping at the Lower Burrell stores, telling jokes, scratching off lottery tickets and picking mushrooms and walnuts. He was a life member of the Lower Burrell American Legion Post 868. He enlisted in the Army, where he served as a Wheel Vehicle Repairman. He then worked in the coal mine for many years. Gene is survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Clive)Wilson of Mooresville, NC., Cindy (Greg) Bosco of Springdale, PA., and Jeannie (Jim) Ipoletta of Mooresville, NC. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Brandon, Tara, Kayla, Tiffany and Amanda; 5 great grandchildren Jace, Adrianna, Eliana, Jacob and Jayden; brother Arthur and 4 sisters, Barb, Connie, Jane and Josie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Ann and loving son Eugene “Buck” Jr., brothers Butch, Glenn, Howard, Joseph and Martin and sisters Betty Ann and Peggy. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Friends will be received Monday from 9 AM until time of funeral service at noon at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Rd. at Alder St. Burial with military honors by The Vandergrift Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
