Espectación’s Obituary Beloved mother, grandmother and lover of family, Espectación (Chonita) Villarreal, 92, died January 17, 2022 in Libertyville, IL after a brief illness. She is survived by her 5 children; Diana Alvey, Lorena Wilson, Gladis (David) Picchietti, Debbie Franco, and Jesus Franco Jr (Erin).; her grandchildren Nicole Schroeder, Marissa Brown, Alexander Franco, Nicholas Alvey, Victoriana (Cameron) Polk, Carlo Picchietti and Keyshawn Wilson. She was born in Villa Unión, Coahuila, Mexico to Arnulfo and Victoriana Villarreal in 1929. Espectación was one of five children and is survived by her youngest sister, Elva and many loving members of the Villarreal and Franco families and dear friends. At age 30, she married Jesus Franco Sr. and they resided in Mexico briefly. They had 5 children together and would eventually come to live in Illinois. Though eventually divorced, they became and remained good friends until his death. Espectación was very proud of her Mexican heritage and its delicious cuisine. She taught each of her children how to make tamales with never an exact measurement to be found. She learned English as an adult, while raising 5 children, working full time and tending to a home. Though she often stated that she could not speak English she could always find the English to argue for her rights, for her children and for many others. Espectación cared deeply about her immigrant community and raised children who also gave back to their community. Armed only with a 4th grade education she was well read and always ready to argue history, politics, and geography. She had a curious mind and was a prolific reader, who was always ready to sit down and listen. She gave good sound advice but never pushed her opinions. Espectación was an avid gardener who took great pride in her flower gardens and loved to show them off. Thanks to her children she was well traveled, and had many wonderful experiences exploring the United States and Bahamas. She loved her family fiercely and loved and kept them close throughout her life. She was proud of the family that she had raised and could often be found bragging about her children and grandchildren. Her greatest legacy will be the family she built, the connections she made throughout her life and the love she shared with those around her. She took great pride in a job well done. Well done, Espectación! She was welcomed into heaven by her loving family members where we are sure a great conversation was started. Her funeral service will be Friday, January 21, 2022 at Kristan Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Service at 12:00 pm and internment at Lakeside Cemetery immediately following service. Aunque a menudo decía que no podía hablar inglés, siempre encontraba suficiente inglés para defender sus derechos, los de sus hijos y los de muchos otros. Espectación se preocupó profundamente por su comunidad inmigrante y crió niños que también le devolvieron a su comunidad. Armada solo con una educación de cuarto grado, era muy culta y siempre estaba lista para discutir sobre historia, política o geografía. Tenía una mente curiosa y era una lectora prolífica, que siempre estaba lista para sentarse y escuchar. Dio buenos consejos, pero nunca impulsó sus opiniones. Espectación era una ávida jardinera que se enorgullecía de sus jardines de flores y le encantaba presumirlos. Gracias a sus hijos viajó mucho y tuvo muchas experiencias maravillosas explorando los Estados Unidos y las Bahamas. Ella amaba ferozmente a su familia y los amaba y los mantuvo cerca durante toda su vida. Estaba orgullosa de la familia que había criado y, a menudo, se la podía encontrar alardeando de sus hijos y nietos. Su mayor legado será la familia que construyó, las conexiones que hizo a lo largo de su vida y el amor que compartió con quienes la rodeaban.
