Elmer Ewell Bledsoe, 92, of Jonesville, VA passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born in Lee County, VA on May 29, 1930 to the late Gale and Hattie Delph Bledsoe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Muncy Bledsoe, by his daughter, Carlotta Bush, and by his brother, Kenneth G. Bledsoe. Ewell was U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a very active community member who had previously served as the Mayor of Jonesville for 15 years. He was a founding charter member and Captain of the Jonesville Rescue Squad where he remained active on the board until his passing. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Jonesville and was a member of the Lions Club. Ewell is survived by his two grandsons, Michael Bush and wife Becky, of Somerset, KY, and Timothy Bush and wife Jaclyn, of Jonesville; son-in-law, Tom Bush, of Jonesville; four great-grandchildren, Makayla Bush, of Somerset, KY, Amanda Sharp and husband Alan, of Nancy, KY, Zane and Joshua Bush, both of Jonesville; and by his many friends and fellow Jonesville Rescue Squad members. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, in the Thomson Settlement Cemetery with Pastor Rob Haynes officiating. Anyone wishing to attend are asked to meet at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday to travel in procession to the cemetery led by Jonesville Rescue Squad.
