View Tribute Book Ellen (Loraine) Kempf Wortelboer passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022. Loraine was born July 1, 1922 to Harold B. and Lila Huntoon Kempf in Holton, Michigan. She was a 1944 B.A. graduate of Michigan State University, a member of Beta Rho of Delta Zeta sorority, and taught in Michigan schools before her marriage to James R. Wortelboer in 1946. She lived most of her life in Syracuse, where they raised two daughters. After receiving an M.L.S. degree from Syracuse University, she was a librarian with the Onondaga County Public Library System until her retirement in 1981. Throughout her adult life, Loraine was involved in volunteering, mostly in children’s activities, and as an active member of Syracuse First Presbyterian Church and the church school. She was predeceased by James, her husband of 67 years. She is survived by two daughters: Janice Ann (Frank) Wierenga of Palm Coast, FL and Lynn Ellen Niedt of Syracuse, NY, seven grandchildren: Leslie (Chris) Sejda, Marcia (Charles) McCole, David (Amanda) Wierenga, Benjamin (Julia)Niedt, Bryan (Meghan)Niedt, Joshua (Jessica)Niedt, and Bethany(Eric) Pitzeruse, eleven great-grandchildren: Winston, Nigel and Reilly Sejda, Drake and Paige McCole, Toby, Layla and Clara Wierenga, and Kylie and James Niedt and George Niedt.
