Obituary Eleftheria Mantis, 78, born in Sterna, Argolidos, Greece. Eleftheria translates from Greek to “Freedom” or “Liberty,” and was joyfully named, as she was born towards the end of WWII. Eleftheria lived and worked in Sterna, and then Argos, Greece until she married her husband Grigorios, and moved to the US for her “permanent honeymoon,” as she liked to call it. She worked two jobs to take care of her family, but always made time for her garden, flowers, cooking, and baking for the ones she loved. After raising her children and retiring, she enjoyed traveling to Florida and Texas to visit her daughters, son-in-law, and grandsons. She was fiercely independent, but always made time for her large circle of friends and family. Beloved wife of the late Grigorios Mantis; Devoted mother of Christina (John) Kearns and Georgia Mantis; Loving daughter of the late George (the late Theodora) Antonopoulos; Cherished grandmother of John, Gregory, and Alexander; Dearest sister of Niko, Panagiota, and Demetra; Dear sister-in-law of John (Zaharoula) Mantis, the late Demetrios (the late Panagiota), the late Panagiotis (Panagiota), and the late Vasilios (Georgia); Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Funeral and Visitation Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service 10:30 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 893 N Church Rd. Elmhurst, IL. 60120. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
